2020 Fundraising VISTA Summer Associate

The mission of Centro Romero is to empower those with the fewest options in the immigrant and refugee community by developing and strengthening the family unit, fostering community leadership and providing quality social and adjustment services. Centro Romero is a community-based organization that has been serving the low-income Latino immigrant and refugee community on the northeast side of Chicago for 35 years. This project will enable us to provide enhanced services to clients with housing issues in our public benefits program, with the additional $4,060 in funds raised for our annual gala. This VISTA project will increase our ability to fight poverty by increasing our fundraising capacity from these additional funds that will enhance direct-service hours to benefit 225 clients with housing needs. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge/experience about community organizations, fundraising; possess good organization skills, verbal and written skills, and basic computer skills; be teamwork oriented; and interested in developing her/his leadership skills. A plus is proficiency in Spanish. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website. This position can start any Monday in June. Talk to your interviewer for more details.
