2020-2021 Community Outreach Liaison VISTA

The mission of the Alliance to End Homelessness is to strive to eliminate homelessness in suburban Cook County through coordination and maximization of available resources to assist homeless individuals and families. The Alliance serves as a leader and convener of community-based endeavors to coordinate the efforts of homeless service providers, affordable housing developers, local governments, foundations, and the private sector to prevent and end homelessness. The Alliance leads the suburban Cook County Continuum of Care (CoC), a network of organizations working to prevent and end homelessness in the region. Entry Point, the coordinated entry system for suburban Cook County, standardizes and expedites the process for those needing resources and services. The VISTA member will be critical in coordinating the provision of these resources more efficiently. With the goal to engage the local and regional stakeholders in the mission to end homelessness, the VISTA will act as a bridge with community stakeholders. In addition, the VISTA member will engage people who have experienced homelessness, with a focus on youth homelessness, to identify ways to strengthen our homeless services system. An ideal candidate will be passionate about working with others to end homelessness. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions.
