2020-2021 Community Capacity-Building VISTA

All Chicago Making Homelessness History prevents and ends homelessness through four signature approaches: emergency financial assistance, community partnerships, data analystics, and training and research. We provide the backbone support for a city-wide response to homelessness by partnering with over 40 organizations and leading them through a year-round research, evaluation, strategic planning, and federal funding application process. We provide trainings, workshops, research, and analysis to help our partners apply proven strategies to prevent and end homelessness even more effectively. This VISTA will help define, structure, and implement several initiatives that are part of our community partnerships approach. These initiatives include creating templates to help report on the impact of our work, developing processes for utilizing best practices, creating the procedural structure for activities that will be led by our partners so they can learn from and support one another, and conducting a needs analysis to help develop the leadership of our community partners who have lived experience of homelessness. We are seeking a VISTA with good communication and interpersonal skills who is able to work with others to identify solutions, plan and problem-solve. The ideal candidate is someone who is interested in learning about the work our partners do and supporting them. The VISTA should be a self-starter, interested in being the first to approach and develop the tasks they are assigned with support and attention from a supervisor. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website. This position can start in June, July, or August.
