Harvest SA Thurston County Food Bank
 
 
 
The Thurston County Food Bank’s (TCFB) mission is to eliminate hunger in Thurston County. The Food Bank is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of community leaders. Their service area includes the urban core and growth areas around Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater. TCFB conducts a number of efforts related to fresh produce and healthy eating. Project Background: Harvest VISTA, a program of Harvest Against Hunger, connects local growers, food banks and volunteers to secure fresh produce for distribution to thousands of people throughout Washington State. Harvest VISTA program finds new and innovative ways to decrease waste of fresh fruits and vegetables and increase the availability of nutritious produce to food bank clients.

Member Duties : The SA will help facilitate delivery of gleaned produce to our Client Service Center, where a majority of clients are served, and to the Warehouse Distribution Center which distributes food to over 70 hunger relief organizations. The SA will support gleaning events, take lead on fruit tree gleaning for the season, provide homeowners education and outreach around fruit tree care. The SA will work with volunteers in our Client Service Center to organize and rotate produce, build weekly pallet of hardy local produce to be distributed, visit and support gardens activities/work parties. In addition, the SA will collect photo releases from volunteer and take high-quality photos and collect "thank a farmer" notes from clients.
