Broward College Social Support & Retention Commissions FLCC

Broward College is operationalizing a movement to increase educational access and attainment levels in Broward County. This movement is Broward UP - aimed at targeting the needs of County residents in 6 zip codes, called Broward UP communities. Despite Broward County's booming economy, Broward UP communities have the highest poverty rates and income inequality among all communities in the county. In Broward UP communities, an astonishing 61% of households earn less than the average median income in Broward County, and only 26.9% have a college degree. The goals of Broward UP communities are to: increase college access and attendance; improve degree and certificate attainment; raise social & economic mobility. Broward UP has created 10 Commissions to address identified areas of need including the Social Support & Services Commission and the Retention Commission. The VISTA member will partner directly with these two Commissions to support the Broward UP Community movement.
