CCMA Food Security Initiative

This project is focused on addressing health futures by responding to the need for increased food security and financial security. The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member serving at Towson University will address the need of campus community members experiencing food and financial insecurity by the expanding the campus food pantry (Food Share) and creating additional programming and resources. In order to decrease the number of community members experiencing food insecurity, the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will create an expansion plan for the food share as well as a training curriculum for volunteers. Additionally, the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will design and implement workshops and educational programs where students at TU would learn about financial and food security, including topics such as: meal planning, food demonstrations, and budgeting that could be utilized in college and after graduation.

Member Duties : The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member serving at Towson University will develop curriculum for a workshop series around financial and food security, including topics such as, meal planning, food demonstrations, and budgeting. Additionally, the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will work to build the capacity of the Food Share by creating and implementing a training curriculum for pantry volunteers. The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will use data gathered from campus surveys, along with institutional data, to target the students and community members who are in the greatest need. The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will build campus and community partnerships to ensure that this project will be sustainable beyond the 3 years.
