2020-2021 Supportive Housing Capacity Builder VISTA

Respond Now provides Health, Hunger, and Housing services to households in need in the far south suburbs of Chicago. Recent data from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency on Planning (CMAP) indicates: • The percentage of Chicago Heights households earning less than $25,000 is 34.5%, compared to 18.7% for the CMAP region. • Of those with less than $20,000 yearly income, 20.7% pay over 30% of their monthly income towards rent, compared to 11.5% for the CMAP region. This data is the tip of the iceberg in demonstrating the need for additional programming that addresses housing services. One model that helps to address those needs is Supportive Housing. The project will grow our ability to provide supportive housing. We use a Housing First model to provide assistance. Front line supervision will come from the Supportive Housing Manager with additional support and guidance given by the Executive Director and Assistant Director. The ideal candidate is well organized and pays attention to detail. They will have good writing skills and comprehend program language as pertains to rules, regulations, and industry writings. Will be able to take that understanding and apply to a practical application in the development of programming. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Member Duties : Bring additional resources to the Supportive Housing program resulting in 10 new supportive housing slots through Respond Now. Review current Supportive Housing programs, including program delivery, internal monitoring, data collection, and reporting. At this time there is no standard process to complete those tasks. While each program has its particular needs, there needs to be a standard process by which to accomplish those tasks. It will be the task of the VISTA to review the needs, analyze our current practice, make recommendations towards a standard process, and implement those recommendations. It will be of particular importance for the VISTA to implement recommendations in a way that is sustainable after the VISTA service period.
