2020-2021 Housing Retention Support Coordinator VISTA
 
 
 
Winnebago County Housing Authority (WCHA) is a public housing authority that serves 5 counties with a passion for providing affordable housing that will enrich the lives of residents and revitalize communities. We’re innovators in the field of affordable housing, accustomed to taking bold steps to improve the housing option available to our residents. This position will be tasked with decreasing evictions through creating a support service system to resolve the most common eviction issues. To do this the person applying should have the following qualities and skills: • Have a passion to prevent homelessness • Ability to work with a diverse group of people • MUST be a self-starter and able to work independently with goals in mind • Be a great communicator • Be able to assess a complex problem • Create a strategic plan to address an issue • Create curriculum to educate diverse groups of residents and staff • Create and maintain partnerships • Be very detailed orientated to completion of a project • Think creatively within the rules and regulations of HUD and the PHA • Understand the basics of research and how to collect/record data. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Member Duties : • Evaluate the needed resources by engaging Managers and Residents on what has led to an eviction notice. • Create a file of resources that provide support information on partners in the eviction prevention program developed in the following areas: • Beginning with our current partnerships, improve, increase and find the necessary partners to have a complete referral reference file for the Housing Retention Support (HRS) program. • Work to create the pool of necessary volunteers to help resident with needs to prevent eviction • Create Survey for participant in the HRS after completion of plan • Create referral forms for all partners with in the network • Create a plan of action to be followed when a 14 day notices are issued to a resident. • Train WCHA staff on that HRS action plan • Develop a strategy to follow participants for 3 months after completion of programs.
