SLACO’s mission is to improve the quality of life for the residents and stakeholders of neighborhoods of the St. Louis region through community-based initiatives, citizen empowerment, and neighborhood organizing, and building the resiliency of its community organizations membership. SLACO has been existence for over 40 years and reaches as a representative over 33% of the residents of the City of St. Louis.

Member Duties : The Economic Development Associate VISTA member will build the capacity of 1-2 neighborhoods by engaging volunteers, community partners, and economically disadvantaged individuals in the reinvestment of the 3.5-mile Hodiamont Tracks Greenway to ensure crime reduction, reinvestment, increased affordable housing and increase employment in the targeted area. As a result of the Economic Development Associate VISTA member’s service, affected member neighborhoods will organize to decrease poverty by becoming stronger and by implementing techniques that will enhance the opportunity to increase the stability of the neighborhood association. When the neighborhood association becomes stronger, poverty will be reduced through improved economic development opportunities.
