2020 OES Emergency Clothes Closet VISTA Summer Associate

Often, new clients present at night with no clothes other than what they are wearing. A shower and new set of clothing during their first night at the shelter provides dignity, a better night’s sleep, and a more hopeful tomorrow. The VISTA will create an emergency clothes closet within our PADS Overnight Emergency Shelter program. This will allow staff to provide emergency clothing for new clients as well as for other emergency needs that arise during program. Hesed House's mission is to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless and give people the chance to hope again. Every year our homeless shelters serve about 1,000 people with nowhere else to turn. Community relationships and funding allow us to continue our mission of providing immediate food and shelter for those in need and give us the ability to return them to independent living. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website. This position can start any Monday in June. Speak to your interviewer for more details.
