2020-2021 Housing and Mental Health Staff Training VISTA
This VISTA position will promote the life-changing work that takes place at Hesed House by improving, expanding upon and increasing the accessibility of our staff trainings and internal processes. The VISTA will improve the overall quality and accessibility to staff trainings, as well as improve internal HR and Finance processes. By improving our internal frameworks, we can better provide trainings that give our staff the tools needed to accomplish our mission of providing dignity while helping guide people through the professional resources needed to attain and retain housing. Hesed House's mission is to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless and give people the chance to hope again. Every year our homeless shelters serve about 1,000 people with nowhere else to turn. Community relationships and funding allow us to continue our mission of providing immediate food and shelter for those in need and give us the ability to return them to independent living. In addition, over 300 people per year are served through Hesed’s Homeless Prevenetion Program. Lastly, 61 households and 128 people are currently being served by Hesed’s supportive housing programs. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website. This position can start in June, July, or August. Speak to your interview for more details.
