2020-2021 Research & Capacity Building VISTA

The Chicago Rehab Network is a city-wide coalition of non-profit community developers and advocates creating and preserving affordable housing. Guided by the belief that housing is foundational to healthy communities, CRN provides research, capacity-building, and policy advocacy to drive development without displacement and shape housing policy. From historic disinvestment to rising prices and gentrification, communities across Chicago are seeing housing inequities deepen. CRN works toward a solution by strengthening the community development field. The VISTA will have an integral role in this project by taking on leadership in expanding our educational capacity-building workshops through research and project management. By working with CRN staff and community partners, they will participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of our capacity-building program, which seeks to provide tools and knowledge to stakeholders creating affordable housing in their communities. An ideal candidate will be committed to housing justice and the provision of safe, secure, and affordable housing for all. They will be comfortable working independently and taking on a leadership role in the operations of our capacity-building programs, carrying out tasks including research and outreach. An ability to communicate and collaborate with other staff, with workshop participants, and with partner organizations will be key to the VISTA’s role in implementing and growing our capacity-building program. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website.
