2020-2021 Community Outreach and Education VISTA

Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights (CLCCR) advocates for racial equity and economic opportunity for all. We seek a one-year VISTA to work with our Equitable Community Development and Housing (ECDH) team. During the year of service, the VISTA will support and advance the work-plan of the ECDH team by building strong, effective partnerships with community-based organizations in historically disinvested communities of color. Strategies employed by the VISTA will include: outreach and education, training for community-based organizations and community members on equitable development and housing issues, identifying community-based organization’s priorities and concerns, and connecting key leaders to CLCCR advocates. Ultimately, the VISTA will establish a well- documented database of community-based organizations, their respective missions, organizational priorities, their history with CLCCR, and opportunities for new or continued partnerships with CLCCR on key advocacy issues. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website. This position can start in June, July, or August. Speak to your interviewer for more details.
