ShareCorps- Freestore Foodbank Summer Hunger

Freestore Foodbank’s mission is to improve lives by eliminating hunger in partnership with our community. Our vision is a hunger-free, healthy, and thriving community. To achieve this vision, our objectives are to provide nutritious food, connect families to supportive services and ensure hope through pathways from crisis to stability. Freestore Foodbank is one of the 200 food bank members of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. As a food bank, we purchase, collect and distribute food to our community partners, including soup kitchens, schools, emergency food pantries and social service centers, supplying over 33 million meals annually. We work to both feed the line of those in need through emergency food services, and shorten that line through intermediate and long-term resources.

Member Duties : Support two summer hunger programs of different models through the engagement and training of volunteers. Work with new Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) sites on location to develop meal preparation, delivery and volunteer roles. Collaborate directly with Freestore Foodbank partners and local families, decreasing food insecurity in the region. Assist in Rural Summer Meal (RSM) program volunteer outreach, orientation and hands-on packing at Freestore Foodbank's warehouse location. Visit RSM distribution sites to gather information and stories. Optimize volunteer processes to expand both programs, feeding more local families and building best practices for the future.
