SUM Associate, VISTA Horizons Student Enrichment Program WAR
Horizons at Warner is the first of the Horizons affiliates to be located in a residence of Higher Education. The program was founded ten years ago as part of the Greater Rochester Summer Learning Association and in conjunction with the then 16-year old Horizons at Harley program in Rochester. The mission of providing summer enrichment opportunities while preventing the summer academic slide in students who live in poverty in under resourced communities matched the Warner School of Education’s social justice missions at the University of Rochester. Horizons at Warner is looking for someone to join our summer operations team in order to serve in developing a culture of caring in social emotional learning. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a core component in young people’s development, especially in students who have experienced trauma, live in under resourced communities, or who have been exposed to sustained stress. The culture of Horizons at Warner has designed curriculum to develop self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships skills, and promote responsible decision making. The program is in need of a team member to coordinate the implementation of the SEL projects, document them, and publish them. If you are someone who sees yourself in a career of service, this is an opportunity to learn the skills necessary for understanding SEL, how to effectively represent and report data in regards to SEL and how to develop and implement SEL projects. The tools and materials created this summer will provide sustainability and longevity in SEL projects for the Horizons at Warner program.
