SUM Associate, VISTA Horizons Student Enrichment Program STR

Horizons at St. Richard’s provides high-quality, tuition-free summer enrichment and school year programs to approximately 150 students from underserved communities in Indianapolis. Students attend a 6-week, full-day summer program on St. Richard’s campus. In small classes led by professional teachers, our students engage in project-based learning and building reading and math skills. Swimming and other confidence-boosting activities break down barriers to success, expose children to new opportunities, and promote healthy youth development. On average, Horizons students achieve 2-3 months academic growth in reading and math and return to school in the fall prepared and confident. AmeriCorps VISTA members will receive direct, hands-on experience supporting a broad range of youth enrichment and development activities in the Horizons at St. Richard’s program. Members will also engage directly with all levels of program stakeholders, offer ways to strengthen program activities, and increase development and communication with the larger Indianapolis community. This is an opportunity for a motivated, committed individual who is passionate about education equity and has strong communication skills. The ideal candidate should have some background of volunteer service as well as the desire to take on responsibilities that will challenge themselves and make an impact on the community. This candidate should also have experience working with children and enjoy working with youth. This is an AmeriCorps Summer Associate VISTA position and the individual will work directly with the executive director, advancement manager, leadership team, teachers, students, parents, community organizations, and donors.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will report to the Executive Director of Horizons at St. Richard’s. The Summer Associate VISTA will play an integral role in the following: -Shadow the Executive Director and Advancement Manager to understand the workings of the program; -Promote the program in the community through various communication, events, and social media efforts; -Capture photos and video during program that tell the story of the impactful work taking place at Horizons at St. Richard’s; -Record and organize interviews/testimonials from a variety of program stakeholders to be used for informational and marketing efforts; -Collect, compile, and present program data and feedback from program constituents to tell stories of our impact; -Attend and help develop and manage family engagement programs -Increase community engagement efforts; -Support project-based learning efforts and programming within and outside the classroom (partnering with the Specialists and Teaching Staff)
