All Ways Up Multi-Site College Access and Success Project

826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our services are structured around our understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. The proposed project goal is to help economically disadvantaged students from Title I schools in the LAUSD to become confident writers, enthusiastic readers, and strong communicators through 826LA’s summer camp for English Language Learners. The Write On! Workshops (WO!W) Summer Associates will work with staff and VISTAs to create lesson plans, assist with programs, recruit students and volunteers, administer enrollment, maintain daily attendance logs, facilitate communication with families, train volunteers, and work one-on-one with students. WO!W focuses on combating summer learning loss and giving the students the much-needed academic support they will need to successfully return to the classroom in the fall.
