Community Support Specialist
a. The Delaware-Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board is the public agency located in downtown Delaware, Ohio that provides planning, funding and evaluation of behavioral health services in our two-county area. We help to provide funding for programs that work with individuals who have mental illness and/or addiction. We are the Opiate Hub designee in our community as assigned by the Ohio legislature. Our goal is to strengthen our county and community efforts to promote wellness, support mental health and combat the addiction epidemic. We need a strong collaborator to engage in community-based efforts aimed at “Changing the Message” and reducing stigma with regards to the addiction and mental illness. The ideal candidate will educate and inform our community regarding prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery supports available in our system. The person will accomplish this with a focus on developing and organizing community outreach efforts, developing educational materials to be disseminated to members of the community, and working with board staff and consultants to develop and track our collaboration on Community Health Improvement strategies. This person will be active in the community and engage multiple partners – while tracking the work being done. Participation with local coalitions such as Drug Free Delaware, Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention and Suicide Prevention is necessary.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will work with Board staff and community partners in the efforts of both counties to combat addiction, raise awareness of mental health, and help reduce the stigma regarding both. This will include roles in both county coalitions which encompass engagement in public events, strategizing effective methods to educate community members, connecting the work being accomplished with strategies of the Community Health Improvement Plan, and assistance in the facilitation of meetings with community partners. The VISTA member will also assist in gathering data and compiling information for the purpose of reports for both the state and the counties. They will collaborate with the Delaware General Health District and other health organizations to report on findings from best practice which integrate telehealth and mental health strategies. Within these community wellness efforts, peripheral support roles will be fulfilled as they relate to our prevention and educational mission.
