ShareCorps-Working in Neighborhoods-Food Justice Coordinator

Working In Neighborhoods’ (WIN) mission is to “empower people to make informed choices for themselves and their neighborhoods through community building, home ownership, and economic learning.” Since 1978, WIN has worked to build sustainable communities on a foundation of community leadership. We believe that residents, especially in communities that have been dis-invested and underserved, must have a say in the decision-making process that affects their lives and the future of their communities. WIN's "Out of Poverty" Initiative aims to lift 40% of residents in five Beekman Street Corridor neighborhoods out of poverty within a generation. Lack of fresh, healthy food in a community negatively impacts health outcomes, economic opportunity, and the environment. Life expectancy in our target neighborhoods is 15-20 years shorter than in wealthier Cincinnati neighborhoods. Food access is one of six priority areas for this comprehensive, grass-roots approach to community development.
