ShareCorps-Salvation Army-Volunteer & Assessment Coordinator

The Salvation Army in Canton is a multi-service faith-based organization offering preventative and supportive services for people who live below 150% of poverty level in Central Stark County, Ohio. Its social serve department provides weekly on-site meals, daily take-out lunches, a choice pantry, sample meal preparation using pantry foods, weekend backpacks for elementary school students, utility and rent payments, and extended case management through Pathway of Hope services. The older adult department has on-site activities three days a week, with lunches, transportation, supplemental grocery bags, and limited case management. The youth department offers weekly character-building activities, Junior NBA league activity, an after-school homework center, off-site overnight summer camp experience, and a middle school summer character camp. The health and wellness component takes a comprehensive approach to each department, offering wellness consultations, exercise programming based upon abilities, and nutrition guidance.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will observe current agency practices and develop systematic approaches to improvement in social service delivery through conversations, surveys, best practice research, and available community resources. With team support, the VISTA member will develop and implement a strategic plan for volunteer recruitment, inventory control, barrier reduction for clients, and staff/volunteer training. The VISTA will work internally and with external partners to ensure the Salvation Army is meeting the needs of its clients, volunteers, and staff to serve our community effectively.
