Richmond Promise - Summer Associate

VISTA Summer Associates will have the opportunity to contribute to building a community-driven college going & graduating culture throughout the City of Richmond by working for the Richmond Promise, Youth Finance Institute of America, The Practice Space, or the Department of Children, Family & Youth. Two project areas led by Richmond Promise and Youth Finance Institute of America, will be rooted in the power of near-peer mentorship and youth leadership, as Summer Associates will be trained to a) build early college awareness among middle-school summer school students in Richmond/West Contra Costa through near-peer college and career conversations, b) Build financial literacy of young people at the middle, high school, and college level through the summer months through workshops, webinars, and a video series; and c) support a successful high school to college transition for new Richmond Promise scholarship recipients through a series of summer success workshops and one-on-one peer advising. The third project area will focus on supporting the continued development, and effective stakeholder engagement of the recently formed Department of Children and Youth, which will create a sustainable funding stream to support youth programs throughout the City of Richmond. The fourth project area is in partnership with The Practice Space, which will focus on developing community connections and outreach to youth, educators, and families in low-income communities to increase access to high-quality education around communication and public speaking.
