ShareCorps - OSU Extension - Nutrition Incentive Program

Ohio State University Extension’s mission is to create opportunities for people to use science-based knowledge to improve social, economic and environmental conditions in their communities. In Cuyahoga County, OSUE provides education and programming in the areas of 4-H Youth Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Community Development, and Family and Consumer Services. The Produce Perks program is administered in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County by Ohio State University Extension’s Community Development program. The Produce Perks program offers Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients with a dollar-for-dollar match when shopping at local farmers’ markets. The Produce Perks program increases access to fresh fruits and vegetables while providing economic benefits for small to mid-sized farms.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will help to expand the reach of the Produce Perks program in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. The VISTA will conduct research to help inform the expansion of Produce Perks to serve families who are currently not eligible to receive SNAP benefits. They will also help to expand the program’s reach by conducting community outreach to raise awareness and program participation among SNAP recipients. In addition, the VISTA member will help create a formal community outreach plan, identify best practices for marketing, conduct a survey for community members and stakeholders, and develop a dissemination plan for program impacts and findings.
