ShareCorps - Helping Hands - Media & Community Coordinator

Helping Hands Health and Wellness Center is a nonprofit, free clinic that provides medical care and social services to those who are uninsured or underserved. The mission of Helping Hands Health and Wellness Center is to be the caring hands of Jesus to provide medical care, health education, counseling, and social services to those with needs. In pursuit of this mission, the clinic offers free Family Medicine and Social Services care, including TB skin tests, physical exams, and women's health services. The dynamic environment at the clinic is primarily composed of dedicated volunteer physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, students, and community members who support the clinic's mission and programs. Helping Hands Health and Wellness Center serves a low-income patient population that faces not only barriers to healthcare, but also food, transportation, housing, and technology. Healthcare providers at the clinic recognize that in order to care for a patient's health, social determinants of health must be addressed. Thus, patients receive not only medical care, but also social services care to address any other needs they may face beyond medical needs.

Member Duties : Helping Hands Health and Wellness Center needs an AmeriCorps VISTA to accomplish its mission and to build capacity for future growth. HHHWC's VISTA will focus primarily on community outreach, marketing, and operational and fundraising projects. The VISTA will develop innovative ways to reach new patients and build new community partnerships with local nonprofits and businesses. The VISTA will also collect pictures, video footage, and written stories to construct marketing materials for the organization and expand social media resources. To secure other avenues for funding, this role will organize and lead the annual fundraising event, as well as research and write grants. Finally, the VISTA will update a patient survey to assess ongoing community needs and areas of improvement at the clinic and send out the organization's monthly newsletter.
