Food Access and Donations Coordinator Year 2

In Yakima, Washington, the Harvest VISTA project is located at the OIC, a multi-service nonprofit community action agency that operates a food bank and distribution center. The VISTA will assess community interest and needs, strengthen community outreach& development, build a robust volunteer recruitment and management system, and increase farmer engagement and produce recovery support in order to expand area gleaning capacity. Captured produce through the gleaning effort will be distributed through the local hunger response network to benefit individuals and families in need who may live at or below federal levels of poverty. Harvest Against Hunger’s, Harvest VISTA programs acts as a program incubator and catalyst, utilizing a team of AmeriCorps VISTA who build sustainable community food security programs. These range from gleaning projects, to regional food security assessments, to expanding community-run gardens and food bank farms. VISTAs serve with their projects for a year, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, addressing challenges related to supply chain management, like the transportation and distribution of gleaned produce, and create systems to collect data and evaluate programs. Harvest Against Hunger projects also aim to involve the larger community in addressing food insecurity. www.harvestagainsthunger.org Are you interested in hunger relief, food waste, sustainable agriculture, nutrition, or public health?
