2020 Rock It! Lab VISTA
 
 
 
As the Rock it! Lab VISTA member at the Central Arkansas Library System you will help end poverty by launching a free co-working space that promotes workforce development and entrepreneurship. As our VISTA member, you will oversee the day to day operations at Little Rock Main Library’s new Rock It! Lab. You will provide information, resources, and services to people interested in improving their job readiness. Additionally, you will coordinate programming for people building small businesses. Major functions will include providing support for individuals using CALS' Rock it! Lab, including technology and research assistance. Additionally, this VISTA will identify ways to make Rock It! Lab support ongoing and sustainable. Applicants should hold a four-year degree in business, communication, sociology, liberal arts, or similar. The applicant should be independent, possess strong writing skills, and enjoy public speaking. The applicant should have experience with MS Office Suite, project planning, and volunteer recruitment. VISTA members receive a $13,399 living allowance and have the option between receiving a $6,195 education award or $1,800 end of service stipend. VISTA members have access to AmeriCorps healthcare benefits and receive up to 20 paid days off during the service term.

Member Duties : Research the history of workforce and entrepreneurial programs at CALS, identify strengths and challenges for existing offerings and create a report that outlines a plan for supporting patrons. Develop and pilot procedures for operation while both staffed and unstaffed; create brochures, posters, and online informational resources to assist with frequently asked questions; find ways to make Rock it! Lab support ongoing and sustainable; develop a plan to support the Lab with a mixture of paid and volunteer staff; create training materials to help new volunteers learn about Lab procedures and operations; work with room users and community groups to recruit and train volunteers; make plans for ongoing outreach to potential new volunteers.
