Clackamas VIM Equity and Inclusion Program Development VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://healthoregon.org/vista The Clackamas Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) Founders Clinic in Oregon City provides primary healthcare to low-income, uninsured adults living in Clackamas County, OR. Over half of CVIM’s patients are native Spanish speakers, many of who are recent immigrants, ineligible for the Oregon Health Plan and insecurely housed. Services are provided by a volunteer staff of medical and allied health professionals. The CVIM Founders Clinic is the only free clinic in Clackamas County. All care is provided at no cost to the patients, by over 120 active medical, allied health and administrative volunteers. We partner with over 50 different organizations who donate in-kind products and services, and who provide specialty care by referral from the clinic. Increasingly, the CVIM patient population is comprised of rural, under-resourced and marginalized Hispanic/Latinx individuals who suffer from undetected, long-neglected and chronic health conditions that impact their ability to work and care for their families. Entire families are often drawn into negative spirals keeping them locked in a cycle of poverty. This position is located in Oregon City, just a few miles from Portland, which boasts a wide variety of activities, cultures, and scenic recreational opportunities. With the innovative public health work happening in Clackamas County, Oregon City is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health! This position includes a monthly gas or transit card to help with transportation costs.

Member Duties : The VISTA will expand access and improve culturally specific services available to the native Spanish-speaking patient population eligible for services at CVIM. This will be done through community outreach, partner development, and team collaboration. The CVIM VISTA will research and develop a program to address barriers to treatment, culturally responsive system navigation strategies, interpreter supports, marketing opportunities, and health literacy materials for our Spanish-speaking patients with limited English proficiency. The VISTA will also develop strategies to identify and describe the social determinants of health that contribute to the chronic diseases that affect our specific patient population, in order to identify treatment support strategies. Ideally, the VISTA in this position will be fully bilingual (Spanish/English) with lived experience working with Hispanic/Latinx populations.
