Mentor Program Specialist VISTA - Year 2
 
 
 
As a VISTA member at Texas Southmost College you will help disrupt the cycle of poverty in an underserved region by designing a customized anti-poverty initiative. Major functions include implementing and evaluating a fully-scaled college mentoring program. Located at the tip of Texas, adjacent to Mexico and 20 miles from South Padre Island, Texas Southmost College is a medium-sized community college located on the grounds of historic Fort Brown. VISTAs will promote social justice in a bicultural environment while building skills in leadership, project management, and communication. The candidate should possess the following knowledge and skills: strong organizational skills; ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, college employees and the public; ability to handle sensitive and extensive confidential data; and the ability to perform and excel in a high-tech all-digital environment.

Member Duties : Working in a bicultural environment on the Texas Gulf Coast region, the VISTA will use data and programming guides from the mentor pilot program established in Year One of the project to plan phase two implementation, including recruitment, calendar of activities, and data collection. The VISTA will also lead implementation of mentor program activities and provide support to program participants.
