Academy of Lifelong Learning Community Outreach Specialist

As a VISTA member at Texas Southmost College you will help disrupt the cycle of poverty in an underserved region by designing a customized anti-poverty initiative. TSC’s Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) provides short, non-credit courses that are informative and affordable to communities across the Lower Rio Grande Valley, including topics such as family and immigration law, computers, self-defense, and nutrition. The VISTA’s major functions include assessing current ALL resources, strengthening existing community partnerships and forging new ones, convening stakeholder meetings to determine course desirability and/or additional data needed, analyzing data and assist in producing an ALL strategic plan, and leading the development of marketing materials to include recruitment of both faculty and participants. Located at the tip of Texas, adjacent to Mexico and 20 miles from South Padre Island, Texas Southmost College is a medium-sized community college located on the grounds of historic Fort Brown. VISTAs will promote social justice in a bicultural environment while building skills in leadership, project management, and communication. The candidate should possess the following knowledge and skills: strong organizational skills; ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, college employees and the public; ability to handle sensitive and extensive confidential data; and the ability to perform and excel in a high-tech all-digital environment.
