Neighborhood Housing Data Analysis, City of Austin, Year 1
 
 
 
The VISTA will play an integral role in Neighborhood Housing & Community Development's (NHCD’s) effort to help community members find income-restricted affordable housing that best meets their needs by leading a project to launch and sustain the Affordable Housing Search Tool. They will also create maps and visualizations that help the public better understand affordable housing throughout the City of Austin and make data-informed decisions.

Member Duties : The VISTA will work with housing navigators and housing providers to ensure that attributional data on income restricted affordable housing are updated on a routine basis. They will create program guidelines and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency, and solicit feedback from users to learn how to better improve the search tool. They will develop tools and processes for community presentations on the tool’s functionality to housing providers and users looking for affordable housing, and then create a sustainability plan for a staff member to take over this role. In addition, the VISTA will create maps using ArcGIS and visualizations with Tableau for educational purposes to help the government, businesses, and users looking for affordable housing make data-informed decisions. They will also make recommendations for business process changes to improve the administration of affordable housing programs.
