Youth in Action AmeriCorps
 
 
 
Members serve the citizens of the greater Flagstaff area and help extend the reach of a variety of public and nonprofit organizations in the fields of environmental safety and education, tutoring/mentoring, and community impact. 1700, 900, 450, and 300 hour positions are available at more than 25 sites, and as the program operates under the umbrella of Northern Arizona University, these service opportunities will often be accepted as internships in a wide array of disciplines. Youth in Action AmeriCorps members develop invaluable professional skills and real-world work experiences even as they contribute to a more vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community.We seek to strengthen our community through our own and our members' commitment to fully-engaged citizenship. Member Duties : Members may tutor children in public schools, manage forest fuel loads, educate the community about our environment, provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for elder citizens, serve as the public face and first contact for a community benefit organization, and be on the front lines of wildfire containment. They may serve in organizations that enhance the arts, cultural legacy, history, geography, and geology of northern Arizona, or reach out to the most vulnerable citizens in Flagstaff...folks who are homeless, impoverished, or afflicted with mental illness.
