Friends Forever Development & Volunteer Engagement VISTA

The mission of Friends Forever International is to empower youth leaders to connect, strengthen, and serve communities around the globe by combining their passion to make the world a better place with the skills, experiences, and resources required to do so. Based in Durham, NH, Friends Forever is an independent 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization which believes we can all help build a better world by empowering our most underutilized asset: youth. FFI works with communities around the globe to build the leadership abilities of their youth from diverse backgrounds to tackle local and global issues. Our programs are generally a year long. Starting in their home countries, youth meet several times to become a cohesive team before traveling abroad for two weeks to either the U.S. or Northern Ireland. While abroad, they build the skills necessary to design and complete a project that addresses a need in their home community. Prior to 2017, our programs addressed poverty mainly through our international participants volunteering with established organizations that directly serve vulnerable populations in the United States. In 2017 alone, our teams provided 12,190 combined hours of service at food banks, homeless shelters, schools, and other community organizations. Starting in the Fall of 2017 we began offering domestic programs and working directly with youth in Rochester, NH. Our participants from Spaulding High School, Rochester, NH, are approximately 93% white and has a poverty rate of 10% (compare to 7.6% for the State of New Hampshire). The Rochester participants are generally more isolated culturally and are unlikely to encounter opportunities for international exchange. We are currently reaching out to other schools in rural and/or lower socio-economic areas in New Hampshire to begin building partnerships with them. Additionally, we have begun providing workshops to organizations that work directly with people facing generational poverty and homelessness.

Member Duties : The Friends Forever International AmeriCorps VISTA will serve towards three primary goals: developing our domestic program for American teens, helping us with our fundraising efforts, and developing our volunteer program. The VISTA will help serve low-income communities by following the domestic program from plan to action. They will identify partner organizations in lower socioeconomic communities, build connections, help build a program schedule, make and execute a plan for youth recruitment, and help to develop systems for monitoring and sharing results of the program. They will assist us our fundraising efforts through identifying and applying for grants and helping with events, including coordinating logistics, volunteer recruitment, and soliciting donations, and other event related tasks. The VISTA will help strengthen our volunteer program by coordinating volunteer days, assisting in the creation and update of training materials, and tracking systems for our volunteers.
