LEAP - HT Earth and Space Educator with Fairbanks Museum
 
 
 
This position is part of the Lyndon Economic opportunity AmeriCorps Program (LEAP). LEAP is a state AmeriCorps program that places members with non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont to support those organizations in expanding services that many communities rely on. The LEAP member will serve with the Museum’s Director of Education in the planning and implementation of an outstanding educational experience for all participants. Duties will include planning, curriculum development, student instruction, and program evaluation. During the summer, this position works with our various camp programs and assists with planetarium shows for the public. This is a Half Time summer AmeriCorps position and requires completion of 900 hours (approx. 30 hours/week) between January and August 2022. Member will receive a living allowance of $7,300 (pre-tax) and an education award of $3,172.50 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include various training opportunities, and Vermont SNAP benefits if eligible. The mission of Fairbanks is to inspire appreciation for our place in the natural world and to motivate our stewardship of a healthy planet. The goals of this position are to inspire students of all ages about the natural world through direct service. This service includes classroom and planetarium instruction on specific subjects as laid out by the Director of Education.

Member Duties : •Work with Director of Education to develop and present their own hour long classes (both in person and virtually) based on Next Generation Science Standards and STEM requirements •Learn a core group of prepared hour long science classes to present to PreK-8th grades (both in person and virtually) •Assist with two hour field programs (during all four seasons) for school groups and homeschool groups •Work with St Johnsbury Academy freshman on Capstone projects involving the museum’s attributes such as the planetarium and collections •Creating and leading interpretive tours and classes based on the museum collections and dioramas •Learn and present astronomy programs in our full dome planetarium using our planetarium software •Oversee camp-in sleepover programs for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H Clubs, and Boys & Girls Clubs on the weekends (limited to 10 each year) •As needed, leading STEAM programming to preschool youth in the (on campus) Balch Nature School.
