Education and Workforce Strategist
 
 
 
The federal Promise Zone designation builds on the accomplishments of the near eastside and its ten implementation partners, setting and achieving goals in a methodically developed plan. Promise Zone designation allows high-poverty, high-capacity communities to partner with the federal government to achieve these goals. The ten-year designation advances the IndyEast neighborhood strategy to achieve five community-defined goals. These are Live IndyEast (Develop Affordable Housing and Redevelopment), Work IndyEast (Create Jobs), Buy IndyEast (Increase Economic Activity), Learn IndyEast (Improve Educational Opportunities) and Safe IndyEast (Reduce Serious and Violent Crime). Each goal contains three sub-goals, along with clearly identified activities and interventions. Over the next several years, JBNC, along with neighborhood residents and implementation partners will work to carry out the activities and interventions while leveraging new opportunities. VISTA members will work with the well-established development team throughout their term of service and will be connected with partners at all levels (neighborhood, city, state, federal) while taking part in professional development opportunities.

Member Duties : The Education and Workforce Development Strategist will work with Promise Zone Director and co-chairs of the Learn IndyEast and Work IndyEast committees to achieve the Promise Zone plan goals related to Education and Workforce Development. The VISTA member will build capacity of the committees by leading committee and working group meetings and fostering the functions of the committees. The VISTA member will plan and implement a strategy that engages the community in education and workforce strategies. Finally, the Education and Workforce Development Strategist will work with staff and committees to research, plan and develop partnerships to support education and workforce goals.
