Communications Coordinator

The federal Promise Zone designation builds on the accomplishments of the near eastside and its ten implementation partners, setting and achieving goals in a methodically developed plan. Promise Zone designation allows high-poverty, high-capacity communities to partner with the federal government to achieve these goals. The ten-year designation advances the IndyEast neighborhood strategy to achieve five community-defined goals. These are Live IndyEast (Develop Affordable Housing and Redevelopment), Work IndyEast (Create Jobs), Buy IndyEast (Increase Economic Activity), Learn IndyEast (Improve Educational Opportunities) and Safe IndyEast (Reduce Serious and Violent Crime). Each goal contains three sub-goals, along with clearly identified activities and interventions. Over the next several years, JBNC, along with neighborhood residents and implementation partners will work to carry out the activities and interventions while leveraging new opportunities. VISTA members will work with the community development team throughout their term of service and will be connected with partners at all levels (neighborhood, city, state, federal) while taking part in professional development opportunities.
