Stewards VISTA: CCCN - City of Providence

As a part of the Cities Connecting Children to Nature program, The City of Providence participated in a city-wide assessment of youth engaging in outdoor parks throughout the city as well as comfort levels in spending time outdoors. From this comprehensive assessment, the City of Providence determined targeted strategies to increase outdoor engagement by urban families throughout the city. This proposed program addresses one of these strategies determined by the assessment; focusing on Communications and Marketing of nearby nature opportunities for local children and families. Through this strategy, the City will create a multilingual campaign to increase community awareness and use of nature spaces. This campaign will engage families of young children throughout the city and will promote underutilized spaces, opportunities for passive recreation and outdoor socialization, and stewardship and park care. This strategy will be led by the Parks Department Office and will be supported by and synchronized with the Healthy Communities Office and the Office of Communications for a marketing campaign. The City of Providence recognizes the need for improved communication and engagement specifically with the City’s Hispanic/Latino communities.
