Serve New York VISTA 2020: WEDI
 
 
 
Serve New York mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members will focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and create healthy futures for the residents of New York. SNY’s goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them, to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Serve New York program has partner organizations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Bath, Ithaca, Geneva, and White Plains. During their term of service, members will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. Our support includes monthly training, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : WEDI empowers economically disadvantaged people in Buffalo, New York with a primary focus on the West Side community. To achieve this, the organization implements programs in Economic Development and Community Development. WEDI serves primarily refugees, immigrants, and low-income individuals through targeted programs like the Business Training, Technical Assistance, and Microloan program, the West Side Bazaar business incubator, and ENERGY and FLY after-school programs. The member will improve the Business Coaching program by recruiting and training viable volunteer candidates and developing effective partnerships. The member will also assist with planning and producing pilot programs relating to food systems and eating healthy. Additionally, the member will implement and evaluate community participation activities.
