Veteran's Outreach VISTA

Work in a team of three VISTA members, one VISTA starting in June, one in July, and one in August to help us expand our outreach to veterans. Depending on skills, these positions will involve website, social media, relationship building with new veterans service organizations, speaking and writing abilities. Find new resources, both in-kind and monetary, initiate performance measures, and plan volunteer projects with companies, groups and individuals that benefit veterans. The goal is to develop a veteran's initiative in order to expand meaningful volunteer roles both for veterans and veterans themselves volunteering. The mission of HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) is to improve lives by developing, advancing, and promoting community volunteer initiatives. HOSC serves a population of over one million and a half people. Most nonprofit agencies cannot survive without volunteers to help them accomplish their mission. HOSC, headquartered in Arlington Heights, IL, has been helping social service agencies to meet community needs since 1969. Our programs include volunteer recruitment and referral, (referring between 8000-10,000 volunteers annually) professional development training, and direct service initiatives. HOSC also sponsors many programs, including RSVP, emergency preparedness and special days of service activities. HOSC is a convener in the community bringing together cross sectors in order to meet community needs through volunteerism.
