Serve New York VISTA 2020: Mentor NY

Serve New York mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members will focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and create healthy futures for the residents of New York. SNY’s goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them, to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Serve New York program has partner organizations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Bath, Ithaca, Geneva, and White Plains. During their term of service, members will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. Our support includes monthly training, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : Mentor New York serves to diminish the mentoring gap through capacity building and technical assistance for coaching and youth development programs; convening partners and elevating the mentoring movement; and outreach to grow mentoring opportunities. Statewide, we are now training close to 2,000 individuals annually over 800 partner programs that serve close to 75,000 youth. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will work individually and with MENTOR New York staff to create a unified training library, manage the transition of program materials to webinars and learning management system; create a logistics manual for public trainings, and assist communications associate in developing/streamlining marketing communications to increase reach. The VISTA will support the expansion of our Mentoring Matters WNY Conference, deepen our relationships with Niagara University staff and faculty and assist communications associate in developing and streamlining RFP process for conference presenters.
