Want to make a positive difference in your community? Your commitment can create a lifelong impact in children’s lives. The Washington Reading Corps (WRC) is a national service program that is actively engaged in improving literacy in communities, local schools and learning centers throughout Washington State. In collaboration with the state’s Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, projects in this program focus on: tutoring struggling readers in Kindergarten through fourth grade, and preparing young children for successful entry into Kindergarten and literacy achievement in Early Learning Centers. The position is a full time service commitment (average of 40 hours per week) running for 10.5 months. Member stipend $1,450 per month before taxes. Receive an education award of $6,195 upon successful completion of service term. There are also 8 month, 1200 hour positions available for WRC members. The monthly stipend is the same as listed above, full time schedules are expected (40 hours per week). The education award is $4266.50 for the 8 month position. Member Duties : WRC members engage in direct-service Early Learning/K-4 literacy tutoring (one-on-one or in small groups). They are vital members of the team who will be involved in program development in our elementary school, early learning setting. This includes supporting tiered student intervention and assessment of learning. The member will be a key team member of our pilot transitional kindergarten program. WRC members will complete national service program requirements including: reporting, trainings, professional learning cluster meetings, and community service projects based around National Days of Service.
