Stewards VISTA: Preston County Parks & Recreation Commission

The Recreation Engagement Program’s purpose is to provide community opportunities for healthy, fun, and safe outdoor activities in the rural and ecologically rich Appalachian landscape of Preston County and the Cheat River Valley. This program will also assist in building a more resilient and adaptive County Parks and Recreation Commission through strategic outreach and collaborative trail planning with a long term vision of developing a robust public land system for future generations. The Program will address the impacts of legacy mining by increasing recreational programming, collaboration, and outreach which will also provide increased opportunities for improving physical and social well-being as well as fostering tourism and economic development. The program will balance organizational needs for growing in capacity with specific programming needs for on-the-ground parks and trail projects. This Program provides the Recreation Engagement Coordinator endless opportunities to leverage and grow his or her skills in a meaningful and direct way in a community that is poised for recreational development, but also desperately needs activities and places for the youth and families to move and play. This is the perfect time to be a part of the excitement.
