The Carver Museum Education VISTA will increase the Carver Museum's capacity to serve youth in the under-resourced East Austin area by providing complementary history and arts education through the creation of new partnerships, curricula, and job-learning opportunities that will prepare them for life beyond school

Member Duties : The Carver Museum Education VISTA will help the Museum serve youth in the East Austin area by providing complementary history and arts education through the creation of new partnerships, curricula, and job-learning opportunities to prepare them for life beyond school. The VISTA will evaluate the Carver's engagement model and increase opportunities for partnerships to expand its reach. The VISTA member will evaluate current participation demographics and create an asset map of youth development opportunities near the Carver, then identify potential partners for participation and education at the Carver Museum. They will cultivate a partnership with Black Girls Code to provide an annual STEM program for black women and girls, and coordinate a global needs assessment of the African American community in Austin/Travis County and the surrounding areas. The VISTA will also develop a volunteer docent program for low-income/working-class youth interested in gaining valuable job experience.
