Safe Routes to Health AmeriCorps - Metro Detroit
Michigan Fitness Foundation is dedicated to inspiring active lifestyles and healthy food choices through education, environmental change, community events, and policy leadership. Safe Routes to Health AmeriCorps Program at the Michigan Fitness Foundation (SR2H) seeks 4 half-time AmeriCorps members to provide service at Beaumont. Service can begin before March 2020. Community locations for service include: Farmington Hills, Harper Woods/Grosse Pointe, Dearborn, and Wayne/Westland. Members will focus on addressing unmet health needs in underserved, low-income communities. The SR2H program was developed by assessing both barriers to healthy living and opportunities to overcome those barriers. Using a multigenerational approach to reach across an entire community, SR2H engages AmeriCorps Members to connect citizens to health, wellness, and physical activity programs by implementing program components and recruiting local community volunteers. SR2H AmeriCorps Members will commit their time to promote healthy futures: they will fill gaps and enhance assets in underserved, low-income communities to help residents gain access to supportive environments for healthy eating and physical activity. In addition, SR2H AmeriCorps Members will leverage volunteers to carry out SR2H programming and affect sustainable change. Members will receive training in a variety of areas to support and enhance the member’s service to community residents with the goal of increasing the skills, knowledge, and awareness of how to eat healthy and be active.
