Pullman Social Enterprise Market Analysis VISTA

Harvest Against Hunger’s Harvest VISTA program acts as a program incubator and catalyst, utilizing a team of AmeriCorps VISTA to build sustainable gleaning and produce recovery programs to increase fresh produce in the hunger relief system. This includes coordinating volunteer groups to glean and harvest produce, addressing issues and challenges related to supply chain management – like the transportation and distribution of gleaned produce. Community Action Center of Pullman has identified a priority in their community food programming to sustaini the work begun in the first two years of our VISTA partnership. The VISTA will work to carry out a market analysis for social enterprises such as mobile farmstands and/or kitchen incubator. The VISTA will coordinate the development of these initiatives alongside a team, while building volunteer capacity. The project will also be integrated with our current garden-share program, where food pantry clients seeking land to grow on are matched with community garden plots. These efforts will build the capacity of the regional hunger relief system to break the cycles of poverty and hunger in the Palouse region through working to develop the sustainability of our community food initiatives through developing enterprises that generated funds while building capacity for increased self-reliance, food production and distribution.
