Stewards VISTA: Voyageurs National Park Association

Through the Voyageurs “Love Your Park” Community Engagement Initiative, the VISTA will help Voyageurs National Park Association secure funding resources and build a robust volunteer program to expand and improve public programming and business partnerships at Voyageurs National Park in Northern Minnesota. They will engage local residents, including high school and college-age youth and seniors, to grow programs that help the local tourism economy and the National Park Service with environmental stewardship. This program will provide training and opportunity for volunteers and in turn more resources for the Park Service and Voyageurs National Park Association. The Community Outreach Coordinator’s main objective will be to establish a joint VNP-VNPA volunteer program that allows us to: • Improve and expand public programming to reach a more diverse community of park visitors and grow visitation • Bolster park use and community engagement with park neighbors • Enhance environmental stewardship and youth engagement activities at the park • Provide skill development opportunities to neighboring populations, especially seniors and high school/college students. VISTA will be based in Minneapolis, with frequent travel to Voyageurs National Park 4.5 hours north.
