Montezuma Cortez School District Communications Coordinator
Our district is dedicated to ensuring all our students reach their potential and graduate ready for college and career. Everything we do is guided by our commitment to providing an excellent education to Every Student. Every Day. The Communications Coordinator VISTA will be responsible for building capacity and providing support to the district communications team to better inform and engage parents and community to support the education of our students. We are committed to closing our achievement gaps and ensuring all of our students graduate ready for college and/or career. Montezuma Cortez RE-1 is in a rural, high poverty school district in SW Colorado that serves a low income community, including the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and Navajo Tribes. Our district is committed to providing an excellent education to Every Student. Every Day. We serve a population that ranges from 65-85% of students who qualified for free and reduced lunch (depending on the school). Our goal is to be the #1 high performing, high poverty rural district in Colorado because we know our students deserve a high quality education. We know that a high quality education is the single most effective means for breaking the cycle of poverty and addressing other disparities such as criminal justice and health disparities. Montezuma-Cortez Re-1 offers an amazing opportunity to make a difference in a rural, high poverty district. We are located in beautiful Southwest Colorado close to the majestic San Juan Mountains and the deserts of SE Utah. Our VISTA member will be instrumental in building our school staff capacity in a way that will increase parent and community engagement. Our district is improving and on the move; we are working to deepen our engagement of the community as a partner in supporting our students.
