TPF/LVCCC Outreach and Projects Coordinator VISTA
Two Peaks Fitness’ (TPF) mission is to provide the means, motivation, and atmosphere to enable individuals of all fitness levels the ability to achieve and sustain their personal fitness goals and simply feel better both physically and mentally. TPF is the only fitness center in Huerfano County, and the only SilverSneakers facility within 50 miles. It has a strong fitness program for seniors with specific classes oriented towards their needs, and offers low income memberships to individuals at 150% of poverty level or lower. We want people to be healthy; healthy people have a better attitude and perform better at their jobs. TPF is also leading a project to re-purpose the local high school’s gymnasium into a recreation center for the community when the school district relocates their campus. The La Veta/Cuchara Chamber of Commerce's (LVCCC) mission is to serve the interests of member businesses by advocating for business advancement and economic growth and actively promoting La Veta, Cuchara, and the Cuchara Valley through marketing and support of community-wide activities. Huerfano County is one of the poorest and least healthy counties in Colorado, in part due to an economy based on ranching and summer tourism. The Chamber advocates for business advancement and economic growth. The VISTA would support a partnership between these two organizations while helping to build the capacity of both organizations in order to foster economic development and provide opportunities for active living and healthy eating within the community. The VISTA will be responsible for tasks such as setting up an information/tourist center in La Veta and establishing community relationships. The VISTA would also work to develop programming for TPF for seniors and school-age kids and would be on the ground floor in planning the development of a community-wide ADA-compliant recreation center open to individuals regardless of income level, age, race, or gender.
