HEAL Coordinator VISTA

The VISTA will support a unique partnership between Two Peaks Fitness (TPF) and the Chamber of Commerce (LVCCC), helping to build the capacity of both organizations to provide opportunities for healthy eating and active living within the community as well as fostering economic development. The VISTA will work to develop programming for TPF for seniors and school-age kids and will assist in planning the development of a community-wide recreation center open to individuals regardless of income level, age, race, or gender. The VISTA will also be responsible for establishing community relationships and setting up an information/tourist center in La Veta. Huerfano County is considered one of the poorest and least healthy counties in Colorado, in part due to an economy based on ranching and summer tourism. Also, 31% of its population is over the age of 65 and there is limited access to healthcare. Two Peaks Fitness’ mission is to provide the means, motivation, and atmosphere that will enable individuals of all fitness levels the ability to achieve and sustain their personal fitness goals and simply feel better both physically and mentally. It is the only fitness center in Huerfano County, and the only SilverSneakers facility within 50 miles. TPF has a strong fitness program for seniors with specific classes oriented towards their needs and will be leading a project to repurpose the local school’s gymnasium into a recreation center for the community when the school district relocates their campus. The Chamber’s mission is to serve the interests of member businesses by advocating for business advancement and economic growth and actively promoting its communities through marketing and support of community-wide activities.
