Business & Economic Development Coordinator (MT)

The VISTA will be working with high schools, colleges and other regional partners that are focused on creating workforce development and training initiatives that impact the greater Helena region making the businesses and residents more resilient in today’s rapidly changing environment. The VISTA will work with regional businesses to identify profession pathways for students and post high school individuals that crave up-skilling opportunities. Success will be found as we bring pathways and workforce together to create a more vibrant and productive resident using tools such as apprenticeships and customized training. This project is sponsored by Montana Business Assistance Connection (MBAC)/ Gateway Economic Development District (GEDD) in the (3) county region of Broadwater, Meagher, and Lewis and Clark Counties sandwiched between Helena and Bozeman. The VISTA will report directly to the Community Development Specialist at MBAC/GEDD, but work closely with each of the school systems and outreach specialists of the region.

Member Duties : VISTAs will work directly with community leaders, education professionals, and industry contacts to gather in-depth information about today’s economic development needs and tomorrows professional requirements. This data will be distilled to improve quality of life conditions in rural competitively disadvantaged areas, as well as economically distressed urban areas. Over the course of the service, the VISTA will partner with the community to problem-solve, identify each regions workforce pathway, recommend economic development activities, and identify potential resources and collaborations that fits the needs for each cohort. The economic development capacity built by the VISTA will provide the communities the tools to grow career pathways for community members, grow the regions prosperity and improve quality of life.
