BooksSpring Fund and Awareness Development VISTA OneStar
BookSpring's vision is a world of families reading and succeeding together. BookSpring builds early literacy in children and families through healthcare, education, and the community. BookSpring offers a Continuum of Literacy Programs designed to reach children from birth through age 12 by building an active and supportive communities of readers. Through healthcare providers, schools, and community partners, BookSpring supports more than one hundred thousand child engagements with books for ownership annually. We provide tens of thousands of hours of motivational activities to children through our program partners and volunteers, increasing the parent's awareness of the importance of reading aloud, and child's intrinsic motivation and reading skills, and the number of books in the home. Through access to books, promotional events, and information on how to engage families in the world through written and spoken language, we aim to inspire a lifelong love of reading. The existing program has been able to provide book sorting, packing, labeling, deliveries as well as reading aloud and motivational activities support to our 200 program partners in Central Texas. Bookspring engaged more than 100,000 children at BookSpring supported events with a focus on partner sites operating in zip codes in Central Texas with the highest numbers of children living in poverty according to the U.S. Census. We are aiming to grow revenue and increase general public awareness of Bookspring’s mission which will help us continue to reach 100,000 children in Central Texas with at least 3 books per year.

Member Duties : BookSpring seeks a Fundraising and Awareness Development VISTA to help increase its capacity to build early literacy through peer-to-peer fundraising and public awareness campaigns. The existing campaigns include our annual Read-A-Thon program, the local Amplify Austin giving campaign, and our 20 Books by 2020 public awareness and crowdfunding campaign. The VISTA member will evaluate and streamline these three platforms to maximize their potential for securing funding and public awareness goals which will help us reach the 80,000 children living in poverty in Central Texas with at least 3 books per year. The member will assess existing campaign strengths and weaknesses to better engage the community with our mission. In addition, the VISTA will research best practices in peer-to-peer fundraising, crowdfunding, and public awareness campaigns to make formal recommendations for campaign improvements.
