Economic Development Strategy Coordinator Southwest Arkansas

This project will focus on 12 counties in the Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District Southwest Arkansas partners with the U.S. Economic Development Administration to provide region-wide strategic economic development planning. Office location will be in Magnolia, Arkansas. 1) The VISTA will have the opportunity to assist in the implementation of a regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for Southwest Arkansas as well as aid in developing training for delivery system partners on effective social media/web based outreach and the possibility of workforce apps/software. 2) The VISTA will assist the Workforce Board staff in workforce research and update and classify TEGL and TEN binders for workforce program. 3) The VISTA will assist in the CEDS annual reporting. 4) The Vista may assist in the planning of the annual statewide PDD Conference. The purpose is to promote the region through implementation of the CEDS. The overall goals are to build capacity in rural, economically distressed communities to alleviate poverty, reduce unemployment, and provide a better quality of life; and to create a more regional workforce system and improve the outreach efforts of the program. This project is sponsored by the Austin Regional Office (AURO) of the Economic Development Administration (EDA), and will be directly supervised by the Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District in Magnolia, Arkansas. The overall EDA Mission is "to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competiveness, preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy."

Member Duties : VISTA will work directly with PDD Executive Director and staff to assist in: procuring marketing contractor if necessary; developing program websites, creating social media sites and apps; updating current district websites; developing program promotional materials; developing and implementing a social media plan; researching overall cost and maintenance requirements of computer/mobile based outreach mediums; updating and organizing workforce development files and projects; updating, classifying, and disseminating TEGL and TEN binders for both workforce areas; implementing CEDS; maintaining and updating web-based CEDS summary; developing template for annual report based upon CEDS activity; and planning state-wide annual PDD conference.
