Recovery Café Coach
Dove House Advocacy Services has been providing free and confidential services in Jefferson County since 1983. Our clients come to us with a range of recovery challenges including domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness, trauma, mental illness, and addiction. Our mission is to empower victims of crime and abuse in Jefferson County through education, support, and crisis intervention. Our programs/services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, therapy, legal assistance, immigration assistance, and 24-hour crisis line. Over time, we've seen how many forms of trauma intersect and overlap. For example, victims of intimate partner violence experience disproportionate rates of substance abuse at 2-6x higher than the general population; rates of PTSD, major depressive disorder, and self-injury is 3x higher; and suicide attempts is 4x higher (SAMHSA, 2017). Furthermore, the largest subpopulation of homeless persons in Washington State in 2016 was victims of domestic violence (HUD, 2016). That is why we are starting our newest program, Recovery Café Jefferson County. It's designed to build community in a beautiful, safe, warm, drug-and-alcohol free space. Through peer support, we anchor people in the sustained recovery needed to gain and maintain access to housing, social and health services, healthy relationships, education, and employment. We provide a healing environment with free meals and coffee; support groups called Recovery Circles; classes in our School for Recovery; social events; professional services; outside support groups; and referrals to community resources. We will hold interviews Oct 1-4. Position contingent on funding.

Member Duties : Recovery Café Jefferson County is a newly developing program. In October 2018, Dove House joined the Recovery Café Network. In July 2019, we closed on the purchase of a building in Port Townsend. And now we are remodeling our building with plans to be open by the end of 2019. Once we are open, an AmeriCorps member will help us to create a healing environment by working directly with clients; They will use Motivational Interviewing techniques such as active listening to model healthy relationships; coach clients to learn life skills through in-vivo learning opportunities at the café; receive training to facilitate support groups called Recovery Circles; plan and teach classes in our School for Recovery; host social events; and provide referrals to community resources. Prior to opening our doors, an AmeriCorps member will assist us with outreach to our target population; recruit and manage volunteers
